Screening of the cult classic film “The Exterminating Angel (Spanish)”, directed by Luis Buñuel at the Cinephile Film Club on 10th August 2023 at 6.30 pm. The film will be screened at the Maquinez palace, Audi I, ESG. Details as given below.

Of all the film makers, Luis Buñuel enjoys a special place in the history of cinema, because of the kind of films he made – he was the master of surrealism in cinema and as anti-bourgeois as an artist could possibly get.
Few filmmakers looked at human nature with such cynicism and The Exterminating Angel is proof of that. This absurdist comedy is about wealthy people who gather for a lavish dinner in a mansion. After the dinner, even though no one is stopping them, they just can’t leave, resulting in chaos and reflecting human nature.
Few films have had varying interpretations, from the high-flown and mundane to the Freudian and political, like this one. ‘The best explanation of this film is that, from the standpoint of pure reason, there is no explanation’, said Buñuel.
