One of the most influential contemporary Chinese directors Jia Zhangke has also become a leading name in world cinema with films like A Touch of Sin, Platform, The World and 24 City.

Shot and set in a small town in hinterland China which is being destroyed because of a dam that is being built, there are two characters Han who comes there in search of his wife and Shen who is looking for her husband. The film received rave reviews around the globe and Zhangke’s distinct style and conscious cinema came in for praise. It won the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival in 2006.
