After the successful European Union Film Festival, the Cinephile Film Club returns to its regular film screenings. This Thursday, 25th July at 6.30 pm, Sachin Chatte will host the screening of the Stanley Kubrick masterpiece, The Shining(1980), starring Jack Nicholson. The details are as given below –
Film: The Shining (1980)
Cast: Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall
Directed by: Stanley Kubrick
Duration: 2 hrs 20 mins
Based on the novel by Stephen King, who was a relatively unknown author at that time, The Shining had director Stanley Kubrick at his whimsical best – one particular shot was taken over 150 times to achieve the perfection he was looking for. Co-scripted by Kubrick, the screenplay was adapted to be made more visual friendly leaving out certain elements from the book.
Jack Nicholson, in one of his most memorable roles, plays Jack Torrance, an aspiring novelist and a caretaker of a hotel that is shut for winter. Along with his wife and son, he moves into the isolated hotel and what follows next makes up for one of the greatest psychological thrillers of all time. Several elements of the film have become a part of history and the ending of the film is still dissected and discussed by film buffs.
