Film: Solaris (1972, Russian with English subtitles)
Directed by Andrei Tarkovsky
Duration: 2hrs 35 mins

Hailed as one of the greatest and most influential film makers of all time, Andrei Tarkovsky made only a handful of films during his career but they all left an indelible mark. Solaris made in 1972 is considered one of the greatest sci-fi film of all time but the plot goes beyond mere science fiction with Tarkovsky’s masterly direction adding a whole new dimension to the novel by Stanislaw Lem. The film is about a psychologist who travels to a space station which is orbiting a planet named Solaris to sort out a crisis with the crew there.  Among other things, the film delves on reality and what is perceived as human consciousness. The film was remade in English by Steven Soderbergh with George Clooney in the lead role.
