Les Diabolique is an all-time great film that inspired Hitchcock to make Psycho. In fact, Hitchcock wanted to make Les Diabolique, which is based on a story by Boileau-Narcejac (Vertigo was based on their story), but he lost out on acquiring the rights.

The story revolves around a woman and her husband’s mistress, the two ladies hatch a conspiracy to kill him. Initially, it all goes according to plan but then there are some unexpected twists. The Rotten Tomatoes consensus for the film reads, “Cruel, dark, but undeniably effective, Diabolique is a suspense thriller as effective as Hitchcock’s best work and with a brilliant twist ending. The film was remade in English in 1996 with Sharon Stone and Isabelle Adjani.
