Film: Faces Places (Visages Villages)
Directed by: Agnès Varda & JR
Duration: 94 mins
One of the biggest names in world cinema, Agnès Varda passed away a couple of weeks back, leaving behind a tremendous body of work which has inspired filmmakers over at least two generations. For almost 60 years, from her breakthrough film Cleo from 5 to 7 in 1962, she worked and consistently made films, till her last days. Varda was more than just a filmmaker, she was an artist in the truest sense of the word.
In this film, at the age of 89, she teams up with a hipster street artist called JR (who was 33) and they embark on a journey that is creative, profound, witty and it includes a trip to meet the celebrated filmmaker, Jean Luc Godard, who was her contemporary.
