This Thursday 6th February 2020 at 6:30pm, the German film Downfall (Der Untergang, 2004) directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, will be screened at Maquinez Palace, Auditorium I of Entertainment Society of Goa. Based on the memoirs of Traudl Junge, one of Adolf Hitler’s secretaries, the film which was nominated for an Oscar, is about the last days of Hitler in his bunker when the Nazis were on the brink of losing the war. Downfall has Bruno Ganz in his most famous role as the Nazi leader. The story is set during a time when Germany was getting cornered by the allies during the war and Hitler was desperate, knowing the defeat is imminent. One of the central characters of the story is Traudl Junge (Alexandra Maria Lara), Hitler’s secretary, who was a witness to all that happened in the bunker during the last days of the Third Reich. A huge box office success, the film came in for praise from audiences and critics alike.
