This Thursday (26th April) at 6.30 p.m. the Cinephile Film Club presents a special screening of the Juze, the most acclaimed Konkani film in recent times. The director, Miransha Naik will introduce the film followed by a Q & A and conversation with Sachin Chatte.
The film premiered at the Hong Kong International Film Festival and went on to Karlovy Vary and others, it won the Special Jury prize at the MINSK International Film Festival. It was also a part of the Indian Panorama at IFFI and MAMI in 2017. The film has been picked up by Films Boutique for international distribution and was released in France as L’Enfant de Goa.

This stark story of social injustice revolves around Santosh (Rishiskesh Naik), a teenage boy who lives with his grandmother in a small hut, among migrant workers in a village in Goa. The neighborhood is terrorized by Juze (Sudesh Bhise), the landlord who does as he pleases leaving everyone at his mercy.
Heaping praises on the film and the young debutant director, The Hollywood Reporter in its review called it a “calling card for Miransha Naik and his fellow budding Goan professionals” and went on to add – “Apart from its European producers and a couple of technical staffers from France, Juze is a local production with Goan actors and crew and completed with the help of villagers — an achievement of sorts given the stark storyline at hand”
