The 24th edition of The European Union Film Festival 2019, organized by The Cinephile Film Club of the Entertainment Society of Goa in collaboration with the Delegation of the European Union to India, Directorate of Film Festival and Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (Govt. of India) was inaugurated today on 4th July 2019. The opening ceremony was held at Maquinez Palace, ESG Complex, Panaji at 6.30 pm at the hands of Shri Daulat Hawaldar, IAS, Finance Secretary, Govt. of Goa, Dr. Antonio Chrystello Tavares, Consul General of Portugal in Goa, Shri Amit Satija, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, ESG and Smt. Mrunal Niket Walke, General Manager-ESG.
Shri Sachin Chate compered the inaugural function. Shri Daulat Hawaldar, IAS, Finance Secretary, Govt. of Goa said “Cinema started in Europe in the form of Art & not entertainment. The relation is becoming stronger between India and the European Union in the field of Arts, Literature and movies too.” He thanked the Directorate of Film Festival for having such type of union and event. He also thanked Club members and the audience present.
The festival which would be held from 4th July to 18th July 2019 would be a fifteen days entertainment bonanza catering to connoisseurs of 22 latest and award winning European movies. The movies will be screened at Auditorium 1, Maquinez Palace, ESG Complex, Panaji. To make it convenient for the general public, the films will be screened at 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm. Mr. Peter Sant from Malta, the producer and director of the film Of Time and the Sea will be present screening and a Q &A on 7th July at 5.30pm.
The opening movie screened was the Portugal film “Diamantino” and was open to all.
This festival is open to public and the seating availability would be on a first come first serve basis. All the films will be with English subtitles and entry will be allowed for 18+.
Hence it is a full palate for lovers of award winning European movies. And it’s the best time for Goans to make the most of it.
