The 5th Edition of Science Film Festival of India, SCI – FFI 2020 conceptualized and organized by VidnyanParishad, Goa, a non-profit registered organization affiliated to Vijnana Bharati along with the organizing partners – Entertainment Society of Goa, Dept. of Science, Technology and Waste Management (Govt. of Goa), VigyanPrasar (DST) Govt. of India and National Institute of Oceanography, commenced on 15thJnuary 2020, in the ESG premises in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant, Vice Chairman ESG, Shri. SubhashPhalDessai, Dr. Prakash Chauhan – Director, IIRS-ISRO Centre – Dehradhun, Dr. Debamitra Mitra – Director, Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute – Kolkata, Shri. Shrinivas Dempo – Chairman, Dempo Group of Industries and Shri. Jayant Sahasrabuddhe – National Organising Secretary, VijnanaBharati.
The festival began with an opening of Science Exhibition followed by main inauguration at INOX Screen I with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony in the hands of Hon’ble Chief Minister and other dignitaries followed by offering mementos to the dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Prakash Chauhan said that “we as humans should appreciate the space and satellite technology, as it’s not only restricted to planets and celestial bodies but to the day to day life of common man. He emphasized his points by sighting many examples.”
The festival aims to celebrate the collaboration between science and cinema and make true the statement that Goa now is Science, Sun and Sand. The motive is to ignite love for Science among students and propogation of scientific conceptsthrough the medium of Films.
The four day event is packed with screening of the science films, Scientist Interactions, Science Teachers workshop, Science Film Competition and Exhibition from reputed Scientific Organizations.
