The details of the film are as follows.
Film: Elevator to the Gallows (Ascenseur pour l’échafaud) French with English subtitles
Directed by: Louis Malle
Duration: 91 minutes
Director Louis Malle was just 26 years old when he made this film which went on to become a cult classic. Moreover, he even convinced the legendary Miles Davis to score the music for this film and the overall impact was nothing short of ground breaking. The film has been often compared to Jean Luc Godard’s Breathless which came a couple of years later. Adapted from the novel by Noel Calif, Elevator to the Gallows is about (Jeanne Moreau) and Julien Tavernier (Maurice Ronet) where he works for her husband. The two lovers plot a crime but it goes awry when Julien gets stuck in an elevator. Apart from Malle’s direction and the music score by Davis, the actress Jeanne Moreau, who passed away last month, also received praise for her performance. It is also one of those films which captures the beauty of Paris in all its glory.
