Amadeus is a fictionalized biography of the renowned composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, adapted by and from a play by Peter Shaffer.With a soundtrack replete with music pieces by Mozart, the story revolves around the Italian composer Antonio Salieri whose jealousy towards Mozart was unparalleled.The story is told in flashback with Salieri, who was an ordinary composer, doing all that he can to scuttle Mozart’s career.
In 1984, this period film was nominated of 11 and won a staggering 8 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Writing – it also swept the BAFTA’s and the Golden Globe awards. Shot on 70mm, this is another of those films that deserves to be seen on the big screen.
Director Milos Forman passed away last week and his impressive filmography includes films like One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest (1975), The Loves of a Blonde (1965) and The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996).
